XL safety pinned layering

I guess the whole "lingerie as outerwear" trend is way too last year but I've always thought Rumi Neely pioneered the whole look quite nicely eons ago... Needless to say that I've found lacey slips and satin-y numbers (like the one pictured here) to be good for layering when a tunic-dress doesn't quite hit the right length. This tunic is my XL find from a Chelsea Salvation Army 3 years ago for <$10 (I love thrifting yes pleaseee)! It's got the perfect flappy laser-cut sleeves and hem and a fun print, as well as an accordion pleat running through the whole thing making it ... expandable.

shirtdress weather

Burgundy sweater layered over my rainbow shirt for an "I'm not trying" look, except I really tried!Ugh. Do you ever wake up on weekends feeling like your wardrobe is way too boring and old? That's how I felt on Saturday with my newly imposed shopping ban still in full force :[ But hey I got to re-wear my favorite shirt and stay pseudo-warm in this layered look. Thank you NYC weather gods for faux-spring weather including full-on sunshine!!

coat, boots & fluorescent yellow

Snow! It really isn't bad here until it gets windy, and we were okay for a bit as we adventured until it got breezy. Then we had to go home and put on my shaggy rug coat.... below.

tint me pink & coral

Not much to write here besides Happy (belated) Valentine's Day! Bought myself a fluffy sponge / yogurt cake and celebrated with my best friend by dressing up like a gypsy fairy and sipping some homemade red and white strawberry sangria a la mason jars (ie. frozen strawberries + cheap wine hobo style). Worked wonders. Sometimes a laid-back night is all you need, especially considering how frigid and slushy it is outside. Also notice the egg tray being used as storage for my jewelry. Loveee it.
PS sorry if the coloring looks funky / tinted! Camera's pretty old now and doesn't do so well with indoor lighting... if any of you have tips I'd be more than grateful to hear!!

DIY square scarf skirt & fairy adventures

I was about to walk out of my apartment in an all-black outfit when I decided I looked absolutely too morbid for a Saturday afternoon. Spotted my $5 kaleidoscope scarf amongst a heap of clothes on the couch and decided that it'd be perfect for a DIY skirt. The scarf is a large square one; I folded it diagonally and tied it around a couple of times, finishing with a simple knot in the front. So hobo. But seriously, you should try it with your favorite square scarf, makes for significant outfit versatility. And by that I mean you can just wear your favorite colors more often. Ha.

hunchbacked morning

This pink lace over slip dress is one of the girliest dresses in my closet. I would probably die if I had to pair it with stilletos (that's just too girly for a tomboy-at-heart like me) so I wore my chunky DIY-jeweled heels :) Got some pastel square rhinestones, some E6000 glue on Amazon and voila, here is the handiwork! I'm actually not finished with the inside but figured I'd wear them anyway.

sunday polka dot fever

Been thinking a lot about polka dots lately - perhaps that's why I overdosed on the rainbow polka dot print fetish last night. Had to wear an adventure-friendly outfit (walked 4 miles) so that was the start of the outfit-planning challenge. Decided to throw on my flintstone top that I haven't worn in about 4 years, featuring a halter-tie top, "scalloped" trim if you can call it that and polka dot print galore. Pants are Uniqlo sweatpant heaven with red, yellow and blue-purple dots. Too matchy matchy? was hoping that the hideous but deathly comfy sandals I have on (:D) and the Céline sunnies make it all work.... what do you all think??

Pashli-inspired umbrella tote?

I like to think of "hobovogue" as my unleashing of creative ideas and an avenue of sharing my aesthetic view with those who visit this site, and hopefully my vision of what is beautiful inspires others to explore, develop and manifest their creative vision as well :)
With that in mind, I'd like you all to and old friend of mine - the giant rainbow dot umbrella!
Unfortunately, this little buddy sort of fell apart post-snowstorm sophomore year of college. Confession: I'm a sad hoarder and have kept the PVC part of the umbrella to this day....  ANYWAY. Through my recent zippering adventure of Ms. Tsumori (see post below), here's some inspiration for what I think I may transform it into through some serious hand-sewing and craft shop hunting....
